Hi, my name is Fanny Tristan, founder of Restority Space. I’m the daughter of Afro-Peruvian immigrants, a first-time mother in the pandemic, and a consumer of all things pop culture. Film, TV, Books, Podcasts…I love them all and have been known to reference music lyrics in sessions. On the cusp of Gemini and cancer, I have the passion and gratitude of a lover and the ambitious, analytical confidence of a realist. Both parts of me create a sense of balance in the therapeutic spaces I curate.
I’ve worked as a psychotherapist for over 10 years, working with individuals and their families in New York and New Jersey. My approach to therapy involves an introspective conversation where clients are encouraged to explore the root cause of their thoughts and feelings. I believe in a person’s ability to restore their sense of self through insight, honesty, empowerment, and the desire to live as their authentic selves.
I’m interested in getting to know the WHOLE person; how they think, feel, and navigate the systems that interact with the different parts of their identity - a truly holistic approach to treatment.
My clients often realize their anxiety is rooted in the past. And I truly believe the past can be a tool to help figure out the future…with a few Rihanna lyrics sprinkled along the way.
In the course of my career, I’ve shared my skills and the love of this work with other aspiring clinicians. I’ve supervised social workers, mental health counselors, and master-level interns in my concurrent role as a Director of a Community Mental Health Clinic. Here, I had the opportunity to work collaboratively in team settings where I taught others to exercise diplomatic communication skills to their fullest potential.
